The Red Copper Better Past Pot is probably the best value pick when it comes to a pasta pot with a strainer lid. It’s a 5 quart pot and has got a lot of similarities with the Gotham Steel Past Pot, one of them being that you might have seen this pot advertised on TV and the design is not all that different.

The package for this pot has all the features on it as well as Cathy Mitchell on it, as she is the one promoting the pot on TV. The exterior of the pan is a bright red color, and although it looks nice it presents the first less negative towards this pot. Namely after a couple of months of use, it does start to peel off especially if you use it in the dishwasher (and as a side note try not to put non-stick pans and pots into dishwashers as they tend to degrade over time). This gives it a used look which is not that nice. That’s one advantage over the Gotham Steel Pasta Pot but on the flip side do consider that this pot is considered the cheaper option. So do keep that in mind as we continue to bring a comparison between the two.

The interior of the pot

Now as far as the interior goes it’s a copper-ceramic coated one that has a non-stick and scratch resistant surface. But again we have to highlight the fact that if you expect a 100% non-stick surface you will be disappointed. It is non-stick which means it’s really easy to clean, you don’t need to use butter or cooking oil, and even cheese doesn’t stick to it. But it does have things sticking to it here and there.

Then the strainer lid is made of tempered glass and has a handle on it. Again very similar to the Gotham Steel pot it has two sets of holes, one set with larger holes and the other set with smaller holes. This allow straining both larger pasta or hard boiled eggs and smaller vegetables or minced beef. The only negative towards the lid would be the handle that I would have liked to see be heat resistant as you might need to touch it as you line-up the holes with the pouring spouts.

Then we have the locking system which is one of the main things that are different from the Gotham Steel pot. Here we have a simple locking system that is part of the handles. I like it, it works well, but I prefer the twist and lock system that Gotham has as I believe in the long run it will last more. Also worth mentioning is that the handles stay a bill cooler compared to the ones from Gotham Steel. That’s a plus in favor of this pot.

Overall considering the price, this is a great pot if you’re looking for a pot with a strainer lid. You can cook anything in it from pasta to hard boiled eggs, and as a bonus you also get a their recipe guide which is nice.
